Leaving Ho Chi Minh City behind, we begin our first full day on the road, heading east towards Vietnam’s spectacular coastline. Our route takes us through changing landscapes towards Nha Trang, stopping in Phan Thiet for lunch amid coastal scenery, fishing villages and sand dunes.

By late afternoon we arrive at the coast, where there will be time to relax by the beach before enjoying a seafood dinner beside the sea.

Our journey continues north along Vietnam’s spectacular central coastline. We begin with a visit to the ancient Po Nagar Cham Towers, before heading north towards Quy Nhon via the beautiful Vung Ro Bay.

The afternoon brings a glimpse into the artistic heritage of the region with a visit to Ghenh Rang Hill and the poetic tomb of Han Mac Tu, before settling into our hotel in Quy Nhon.

Today is one of the great driving days of the journey as we head north towards Hue, Vietnam’s former imperial capital. After lunch in Danang, we take to the legendary Hai Van Pass, winding high above the coast with spectacular views across mountains and sea.

Arriving in Hue, we discover a city steeped in imperial history before an unforgettable royal-style dinner accompanied by traditional Ca Hue folk music.

An early start takes us north towards Ninh Binh, travelling through peaceful countryside, rice fields and traditional villages.

Today we leave the road behind for one of Vietnam’s most iconic experiences. After a morning drive to Ha Long Bay, we board our cruise and begin sailing among the extraordinary limestone karsts and emerald waters of this UNESCO-listed landscape.

With the afternoon dedicated to exploring or relaxing aboard the vessel, we spend the night surrounded by the spectacular formations of the bay.

We leave Hanoi behind and head north towards the mountains, following the modern highway to Lao Cai before beginning the spectacular climb into the highlands. Our destination is Sapa, perched at around 1,500 metres beneath the shadow of Fansipan.

In the afternoon we descend into the valley on foot to Cat Cat Village, home to the Black H’mong people, discovering traditional life and the dramatic waterfall below Fansipan.

Today is a welcome pause in the mountains of Sapa.

Today we take to some of northern Vietnam’s most spectacular mountain roads, travelling from Sapa towards Dien Bien Phu.

We cross the breathtaking O Quy Ho Pass, continue through remote valleys and ethnic minority villages, and pause for lunch in Lai Chau before continuing west.

Our destination is Dien Bien Phu, a place whose name is forever associated with the decisive battle that ended French colonial rule in Vietnam.

Today marks our first international border crossing as we leave Vietnam and enter Laos at Tay Trang.

By late afternoon we arrive in this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage town, celebrated for its temples, French colonial architecture and timeless atmosphere.

Today brings a long and rewarding drive through northern Laos as we continue towards Vang Vieng.

The route winds through mountainous landscapes, dense forests and small ethnic villages, offering a fascinating insight into the remote character of Laos. By late afternoon we arrive in Vang Vieng, where the dramatic limestone mountains provide a spectacular backdrop to our evening.

We begin today in Vang Vieng, surrounded by some of Laos’ most spectacular limestone scenery. We visit Tham Chang Cave for panoramic views over the Nam Song River before exploring local villages and gaining an insight into everyday Lao life.

After lunch we continue south to Vientiane, the elegant and laid-back capital of Laos.

Our journey continues south through the lush landscapes of Laos towards Champasak, a peaceful riverside town on the Mekong.

Today we cross another international border, leaving Laos and entering Cambodia.

From here we continue to Siem Reap, gateway to the magnificent temples of Angkor.

Leaving Koh Kong, we follow Cambodia’s scenic coastal roads towards Sihanoukville.

The landscape gradually opens towards the Gulf of Thailand as we travel through the south of the country. Arriving in Sihanoukville, we settle into our hotel and have time to relax beside the beach before dinner.

Today is a welcome day at leisure beside the Cambodian coast.
